TOEFL, as a standardized test for basic English language competence, has always been one of the measurements which Admission Offices in many famous universities and colleges as well as Human Resource Departments in variety of organizations use for talents selection. In China, regardless of whether or not it is for the sake of improving English or studying abroad, TOEFL has always received the considerable attention from teachers and students. There is no doubt that TOEFL, as a language test, is extremely scientific and authoritative. An overall view of the contents of previous TOEFL Tests tells us that knowledge about American history plays a significant role in them. On the basis of American history classification, this paper aiming at the research into American history in the TOEFL tests between 1980s and 2000s conducts data analyses chronologically; thereby summarizing the features and reasons about American history in them, which makes the rules of American history in TOEFL tests more clear and fills in a blank spot in this research accordingly.
