In recent years, Somalia pirates have been increasingly rampant along the Gulf of Arden which is regarded as an area with the most dangerous pirates. The rampancy of Somalia pirate poses a serious threat to the international shipping and the shared interests in the international community. United Nations has passed several resolutions to authorize nations to conduct military raid against pirates plying the waters off the Somalia coast. The international community also makes certain efforts to curb the piracy. However, there exist difficulties in the actual operation.The frequency and intensity of Somalia piracy seriously affect the maritime safety and economic interests of our country. The central government of China has taken relevant measures respectively in military, political and economic areas to address this international challenge, in particular sending navy vessels to fight against Somalia piracy which is of significant importance to China and the rest of the world. Meanwhile, in terms of the practical operation, both the international community and our country are facing the problem of inefficiency in curbing the piracy.The paper focuses on analyzing the reasons and significance of China's sending naval force to protect the ships along the Gulf of Arden by discussing the characteristics of Somalia pirates and relevant measures adopted by the international community. Furthermore, the suggestions for effectively eliminating pirates in the area of law regulations, economic considerations and military actions are put forth to the government of our country.
