Egypt has been a major source of emigration in Northwest Asia. According to the statistics released by the World Bank, there were about four million people migrating to other countries from Egypt in 2010, accounting for 5% of the Egyptian population. Since 1970s, Egypt experienced three stages of emigration successively, which were"emigration of the upper class in small numbers","large scale emigration"and"emigration to developed countries". Statistics show that the emigration of Egypt shares some common features in terms of educational level, gender, marital status, etc. Illegal emigration is also part of the population migration of Egypt.Since the ruling of President Nasser, all Egyptian administrations are committed to economic development. However, constrained by factors like population policies, economic development, the development of the Egyptian economy is always fail to satisfy the needs posed by the population growth. Confronted with various difficulties, such as high unemployment rate, Egypt gradually eased its restrictions on migration since the administration of President Sadat. Laws were promulgated and international cooperation strengthened in order to increase employment. Thus, the scale of Egyptian emigration increased significantly. On one hand, large scale emigration is a major loss of talents for Egypt; on the other hand, it brings huge revenue of overseas remittance to the country, which is an important source of income for the country in eliminating poverty, improving education and balancing international payment. Due to the impact of the financial crisis, there is a significant decline of both emigration and the oversea remittance. But the domestic situation of the Egyptian society remains unchanged. The trend of emigration in Egypt through the way of strengthening international cooperation is going to continue.
