Abstract/Summary:
On may 20th,2010, the employees from Honda which is based on Foshan were engaged in a strike to show their disappointment over the salary policy. During the whole event,Honda's Union did not perform their duty. What's more, the staff from its superior union confronted its own members who were engaged in the strike.Composed of 4 parts, this paper from a legal perspective analyses the challenges facing China's Union which are reflected in this event. This paper presents solutions to the problems emerged, hoping that they could be beneficial to the building and reform of China's union system.Part 1 introduces the background of the strike event. It mainly focuses the cause and its development.Part 2 discusses Honda Union's performance. This part details the reasons behind this phenomenon. The fact that Honds Union which has been inactive in protecting the rights of workers resulted in the strike.Part 2 explores the reasons concerning union's inactivity and dysfunction. This part discusses union's inactivity and dysfunction by analysing its structure and relevant legislation concerning union. China's current legislation regarding union is made decades ago,which cannot meet the needs of protecting worker under market economy.currently, union puts itself in a wrong position,confronting and ignoring its owe members. Besides, unions are overburdened with political mission and task.Part 4 advances proposals to solve union's inactivity and dysfunction reflected in the event. The proposals advanced in this part are composed of 3 dimensions regarding union's depoliticisation, reposition and legislation.
