The Taiwan Special Investigation Unit's forerunner is the "Taiwan higher court prosecutors office" Hitting Dirty Politics Center Special Investigation Unit which established on July 1,2000.After "Taiwan Court Organization Act" amended,the "Special Investigation Unit" became one part of Taiwan's "Supreme Prosecutors Office",the mandate of Special Investigation Unit is to investigate corruption crimes of senior government officials, election crimes.Prosecutors of the Special Investigation Unit can according to the nature of the case and the jurisdiction of the law to perform the functions of the trial-level prosecutors,when they perform there duties. Only in their respective jurisdictions, General Prosecutors can exercise there powers.The Prosecutors of Special Investigation Unit exercise powers without the jurisdiction limit,they can exercise powers across different jurisdictions to any court which have case management powers.In these two perspectives,the prosecutors of Special Investigative Unit can be called Special Prosecutor.The purposes of setting the Special Investigation Unit are improving the status to ensure the independence of the Special Investigation Unit investigators,to combat the currently complex crime.
