The Evolution Of State Function In A Globalization Background

Undoubtedly, globalization is one of the most important characteristics of contemporary world. The influence that globalization exerts upon the social life is unprecedented, and it is also an unprecedented revolution that humankind has ever experienced. This paper surveys nation-state in the view of globalization. It can be said that the nation-state is a product of the process of globalization; however it promotes globalization enormously after it appears. During hundreds of years of globalization, the state function of the nation-state changes several times, from laisser-faire to state intervention, then returns to laisser-faire, and at last"the third way"appears.And now, the nation-state has met serious challenge from globalization, it is having more and more intense contradiction between the development logic of globalization and the system of nation-state. The sovereignty status is suffering unprecedented challenge, the traditional national boundary is getting more and more fuzzier, the nation-state's authority also can only be more and more transferred and weakened, and the expansion of culture imperialism corrodes the ideology of the nation-state gradually, and so on. This paper is just researching the state function of nation-state under a globalization background.The paper divides into four parts. The first part first discriminates the concept of globalization, then analyzes the relationship between globalization and nation-state, finally introduces the state function of nation-state simply. The second part traces the evolution of the state function of nation-state, introduces the different state function's view in history and theory. The third part elaborates some connotation about"the third way". The fourth part points out the globalization's challenge to the nation-state and our country's procedure.
