As a significant component element of the U.S. national strategy, alliance strategy has long played an important role in the international community. East Asia, which has been taken seriously by the U.S. government, is an important constituent part of the U.S. international strategy. Guided by this strategic intent, during 1950s U.S. and Japan established in East Asia mutually-allied military diplomacy mechanism, based on which the U.S.-Japanese military products trade has existed and influenced the regional situation for a long time. Particularly, in recent years, the military diplomatic intercourse between U.S. and Japan is extremely highlighted. There are regular strategic negotiations and joint military maneuvers yearly as well as their frequent exchanges of military staff. The most typical form is military products trade, for example, selling weapons, offering military technology, aiding facilities construct, assisting non-military activities, which become the uncertain factors in East Asia.Through the theory of Alliance, the thesis strives to grasp the possible influence generated by the U.S.-Japan military products trade, and it studies and elaborates the trade's status quo and tendency based on the discuss of the U.S.-Japan military products trade, having systematically solved relevant specific questions and providing references. The thesis consists of introduction, main body and conclusion. Introduction mainly includes the basis and significance of this research, current situation of this research at home and abroad, theoretical research achievements applied, and makes the mentioned core concepts clear, i.e. alliance theory,"check and balance"and"follow"in alliance theory, features and establishment of alliance, the chief distinctions between alliance and international/regional organizations, military products and military products trade. The main body can be divided into three parts. Firstly, it analyzes systematically the history of the U.S.-Japan military products trade. Chronologically, it contains four stages: limited military products trade stage, gradually enlarge stage, standstill stage, overall strengthen stage. Meanwhile, America-oriented, mutual benefit within alliance, limited military products trade are the three features summarized. Secondly, it interprets the U.S.-Japan military products trade via alliance theory and probes into the propel function of alliance theory to military products trade, reaching the conclusion that U.S. has three objectives, i.e. balancing great powers, replying to East Asian threaten and keeping American hegemony up. Thirdly, considering the present international situation and U.S.-Japanese relationship, it analyzes the impact on regional safety brought by the U.S.-Japan military products trade and makes the prediction of its future. It is a positive exploration of concrete solutions.
