The Cold War was all-out confrontation in the political, military, economic, cultural and other fields between the Soviet Union and the United States. As an effective tool for the implementation of the containment strategy, the U.S. Navy played an important role in the Cold War. The relationship between the U.S. Navy and the Cold War was an important issue in the study of the Cold War history. The American scholar has achieved considerable successes in this field. This article is a review about the U.S. Navy and the Cold War Studies. The article firstly sorts and analyses the researches about the U.S. Navy and National Security Strategy in cold war period in the nearly six decades by domestic scholars and American scholars are, and then summarizes the research law and view, screens out the research focus and priorities, understands the problems in current research, in order to have the comprehensive and profound understanding towards the status of research in this area, contributing to the research in this area.In the first and the second part, the research in this field done by domestic and foreign scholars, especially American and Chinese scholars, are generalized and summarized, and characteristics of each stage are discussed. And the important researches are briefly introduced. The third part of this article describes controversial topics that the U.S. scholars encountered in the research, and analyses what they debate on. The fourth section describes the U.S. academic research focus in this area. The conclusion part discusses the problems in the research of the U.S. navy and the Cold War, and indicates the future expanding field and direction in this area.
