Modernity is a hub of times. Marx made profound critique on modernity in the reign of modern consequences highlighted. Marx's critique on modernity, in the meaning of philosophy, is the critique on philosophy of consciousness. From the perspective of traditional and postmodernism understanding, the thesis advances the idea that Marx's critique on modernity is not only a theory critique but also existential meaning contained by analyzing the development of Marx's critical theory of modernity. From the vision of capital, Marx transferred reflection and critique on modernity as reflection and critique on capital. Thus it transcends the traditional mode that equates critique on modernity with reason or concept. Marx's critique on modernity contains the meaning of existence but differentiates with irrational character of western existentialism. Marx's critique on modernity is true to the human existence as the starting point, to the sensitive objective activity as the foundation, to dissimilation of survival as critical object, to construct the human existence state as the target and thus it ends and transcends modernity. In the time of comprehensive construction of socialistic modernization, the existential understanding of Marx's critique on modernity provides new theoretical resources for contemporary philosophy research, responds modern and post modern trend in the Marx philosophy research. It is a new theoretical exploration combining Marx's philosophy with specific practice of contemporary China and has important guiding significance for the human ultimate concern, China's ecological civilization and harmonious society construction.
