Vocabulary is the most important one of the three major components that constitute the language, and vocabulary learning therefore is the most important in language acquisition. Many second language learners believe that vocabulary is the foundation of any kind of communication. One of the fundamental goals for English learners is to expand their vocabulary knowledge. With the increasingly high demands on vocabulary, vocabulary learning strategies should be more focused on. Since the 1990s, strategy training has been a hot topic in English teaching field. The proper use of learning strategies can be helpful to the language acquisition and it can also improve the learners' vocabulary learning efficiency.This research attempts to describe the facts of English vocabulary learning among 287 junior high students. And the instruments adopted include a questionnaire, a vocabulary test and the senior high school entrance examination.The analyses of the data reveal:1)9 of the vocabulary learning strategies turn out to be positively correlated with the vocabulary size; 2) The results of the entrance examination are positively correlated with the vocabulary size; 3) The more successful learners in junior high school use the strategies more often than less successful learners.
