On The Research Of Residential College Reform Of Shantou University-a View From Students' Satisfaction

As a students'community with the function of education, residential college has a history of hundreds of years. Residential college originated in the 12th century, the City of Paris, and the College de Dit-Huit, which was built in 1180, is the first residential college. The system of residential college was adopted in the UK's Oxford and Cambridge. Residential college quickly formed its own characteristics in Oxford and Cambridge, and residential college system has become the characteristics of the two universities. The system of residential college soon spread to colleges and universities in other countries because of its own advantages and the prestige of Oxford and Cambridge. Yale, Harvard established its own residential colleges respectively in 1930s. Some universities in Canada, Mexico, Singapore and Chinese Hong Kong have gradually follow them up, setting up their own residential colleges.Residential colleges in different places have different characteristics, but they have many similarities, such as residential colleges generally have a more systematic structure, residential college students generally held a variety of activities, and the like. Residential college plays an important role in the process of cultivation of high-quality talents; however, by the end of the 20th century, there has not existed any university with residential college in mainland China.As internationalization oriented university, Shantou University established the first residential colleges-Veritas College, covering the four academic years, in mainland China during the year of 2008. Nowadays the operation of Veritas College has become mature, and Veritas College achieves recognition from the people in and outside the university. To further understand the condition of Veritas College and pose some suggestions for further reform, this study focus on the students' satisfaction to the service provided by the university, bases on student satisfaction questionnaire and compares the date from the students of Veritas College with that in other lodging house. I interviewed the students of Veritas College according to the comparative results of the two group dates, and summarized the achievements and shortcomings of Veritas College, presented some suggestions for further improvements based on the analysis of the interview results.
