With the development of social economy, people have come up with higher expectations for higher education. After the popularization of higher education. We should not only increase the quantity of people, but also put emphasis on improving the quality of talent cultivation. These are new requirements for colleges and universities as well as great challenges for teachers'management. After another round of merger, colleges and universities are faced with many problems; the competition with each other is also getting more and more fierce. Improvement on faculty management can bring out the teachers'passion for their work, and that's what it takes to guarantee the sound development of universities.The release of human potential needs stimulus from the outside world. The motivation theory tells us how to make the best use of the teachers'potential. Based on the modern western motivation theory, this thesis introduces the theory for college faculty management in western countries. Firstly, the thesis illustrates the background and meaning of the research, in addition to the status quo and main content. Secondly, it summarizes the development of motivation theory, including Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Two Factors Theory, expectancy theory and so on. Then it introduces the procedure, content and principles for faculty management, the experiences of American faculty management, the status of Chinese faculty management. The fourth is applications of the theory mentioned above. The last part of this thesis comes up with measures to establish a more effective management system, including self-management by university faculties; more reasonable assessment methods; common goals and wishes among teachers; payment allocation, etc.
