This study collected 177 copies of drawings, with the'happy''sad'and'fear' theme respectively, completed by 6-year aged children. By combing the interviews with children on their own drawings in terms of the contents and based on the Symbol Aesthetics, the study investigated the expressing way of the three proposed emotion in the 6-year aged children's drawings from the painting modeling(spots, lines and planes), composition of picture and the color in the picture.By studying these works, the researcher found that in the drawings which express happiness, in terms of modeling, the profile of visual figures is clear and even in breadth&length, they tend to make the shape of mouth as the form of U, in order to express their joy, the sun is the most-frequently-showed image in the pictures, and the litter artists like convey their happiness by using the shape of heart. In terms of usage of color, they'd like choose red, orange etc., which are elements of warm colors, some children also like using kinds of colors to make colorful images. Besides, some like using'conceptual color'----reproducing the images with the real colors of that thing. In terms of composing the elements in the picture, children like putting spots around the exciting figures, most of them tend to place the visual figures in the middle of the drawing paper to express their emotion directly, also there are many visual centers in the pictures, and many figures covering the entire paper.In the pictures expressing sadness, as for the modeling of lines, they tend to use non-oriental messy lines and fold lines with sharp angles, as for the modeling of planes, somebody draw faces with tears and broken forms of heart, also there are children make the each parts of man's body opposite to the real forms; In terms of color, usage of black takes a bigger share, someone also use the cold color as blue and green; In terms of composition, children use spots to instead of tears and pouring rain to describe the sad atmosphere, they tend to place the visual images in the corner of the paper, not in the middle, the elements which construct the entire drawing are in disorder, there also are some children making the arms of people in the pictures hang in the air with the figuretips down to the earth.In the drawings that convey fear, the trembling short wavy lines are also used by them to convey fear, the profile of some visual figures is distorting and broken, the form of heart also appears in the picture, however there is a mark of cross on the heart, some forms of figures are irregular. In terms of color, the black also domains, blue and green are also applied in this group of pictures. As for the composition, children like putting the black spots that express fear on the drawing paper entirely, man's body are combined by triangle and rectangle, their position in the picture is also in the corner, Some children put many irrelevant items in the picture, these items nearly cover the major visual figures, making the drawings depressed.Based on the study process and the conclusions, the researcher pointed out the following advices on art education for early children:1.to strengthen young children's emotional experience in order to accumulate the artistic images for the drawing activity in later period;2.to encourage children to use their favorite and colorful art symbols to express their emotion in the drawing.
