Culture is an important theme of contemporary Foreign Language Education (FLE) research, and scholars at home and abroad have achieved a lot in the area. The title of the thesis is A Study on Culture Introduction in English Teaching in Senior High School. The author believes culture introduction should also be an important part in FLE in senior high school and therefore the author does a survey on culture introduction in English teaching among Senior One students on a small scale in Jiangsu Xianshan Senior High School (JXSHS) and analyzes the results and possible causes. On the basis, the author makes a plan on culture introduction and carries out some experiments in FLE in one class in JXSHS. Based on Advance with English, Module One and Two, the author obeys the principles of Practicability, Suitability and Characteristics of stage, and selects the cultural factors below:(1)cultural factors that interfere communication; (2)cultural background and the content of words; (3)the organization and structure of a discourse; (4) based on Advance with English, the teacher introduces some common knowledge of politics, history, economy, geography, literature and some social issues about English-speaking countries. After the 19-week experiment, the experimental class makes much progress in the percent of awareness than the comparative class in the test of both cross-cultural communication and cultural knowledge and the final exam items that reflect culture background or communication knowledge. Culture introduction in FLE proves that FLE can be both practical and cultural, which also contributes to the students learning more knowledge about culture and communication of the target language, broadening their horizons and helping improve the student's culture-awareness and cross-cultural communication.
