Modern society is a knowledge era, learning society, people need to continue to learn new knowledge, therefore, self-learning is the hot problems in the field of teaching which is widely discussed in recent years, and it have very far-reaching significance for the personal growth and development of education to develop ability of students'self-learning.According to Zimmerman's independent study frame, the teacher tried to train students'independent reading abilities by cultivating the students' motivation, emphasizing the function of time arrangement, environment arrangement, reading strategies, self control and social team work in the senior English reading teaching experiment.This research used the questionnaire on the aim of study and strategies of study as a tool and takes the 80 students of Shenyang No.30 Middle School as samples. Through the questionnaire, we can know about the situation of the students'independent study on English reading. Seeing the students'weak independent reading abilities, the teacher used an English independent reading teaching method in the experimental class and did a research on how to train the students'independent reading abilities.The research results are based on the data from the questionnaires on the aim of study and strategies of study and students'reading scores before and after the experiment.The research results are as follows:1. The motion of the students'independent study is growing;2.The strategies of the students'independent study plan are developing;3. Students have the awareness of using the strategies of adjustment;4. Students master some reading strategies;5. Students'teamwork ability is developed in the group work;6. Students develop reading strategies by doing proper reading practice after class.After the experiment, the average score of the experimental class is higher than that of the comparative class, which shows that the experimental teaching method is efficient.The experimental teaching strategies are as follows:1. Design topic for the students to preview and motivate the motion of the students'independent study2. Require the students to finish the task in the allowed time and train the students'strategies of plan3. Teach students different reading strategies and train the students' strategies of adjustment4. Teach students some reading strategies and train the students'ability of independent reading study5. Arrange teamwork between students and develop students'teamwork ability6. Select proper reading materials and require the students to develop reading strategies by doing reading practice after class.
