Wushu is an important part of traditional Chinese culture which carries on the essences of multiple disciplines, such as classical philosophy, classical aesthetics, folklore and so on. So it has aesthetic characteristics like such traditional culture as drama, calligraphy and dance. An overall view of the aesthetic achievements in traditional Chinese culture will show that the most aesthetic achievements attained in the field of dance, calligraphy and painting while the researches on the aesthetics of Wushu are rather inadequate.Adopting the methods of document information, expert interview and logic analysis, this thesis attempts to find out the aesthetic elements in Wushu and the linkage between the aesthetics and the martial arts through analyzing all of the aesthetic elements in traditional aesthetics. The thesis is supposed to enrich the theoretical knowledge of Wushu and offer the theoretical basis for studying on the aesthetics of Wushu. Actually, aesthetics of Wushu derives from ancient productive labor and its specific embodiments in ancient times are ancient martial dance for entertaining or providing sacrifices to ancestors in tribes. Martial arts is bred by traditional culture and infiltrated by traditional aesthetics. The present research combs the abstract connotation of the individual character in traditional aesthetics from the angles of sight, hearing, touch and taste to help people understand the aesthetics of Wushu. Wushu is different from other traditional sports, because its boxing theory is based on the traditional philosophy and traditional aesthetics which contains rich ideas of philosophers and reflects the harmony of man and nature.Martial arts transforms from audible language into body movements which exists in the aesthetic shapes of body language. Therefore, it transforms from a signal way into a compound multiple shapes. The movement of Wushu regards the body movements as the performance of metaphor and metonymy, pointing to an aesthetic world of"the real meaning is not expressed but implied"or"there is an end to the words, but not to their message". It can express the implied meanings through the images of the movements. Therefore, it is necessary for aesthetics of Wushu to construct the aesthetic ideology of"image"in Wushu. The mutual promotion of Wushu with modern film and stagecraft is the vital way to integrate the consciousness of Wushu aesthetics into the public aesthetic culture. As to the fighting in films and TV show, we should treat this phenomenon objectively. It can expand the routes of transmission. However, pursuing the excessive actions in films and TV show will distort the reality of the Wushu.
