In a broad sense, Wushu belongs to sports, but goes beyond it. Wushu can improve physique, cultivate moral character, and nourish nature. Wushu origins from Chinese traditional cultures and has rich national characteristics. Wushu composes beautiful movements of Chinese civilization and is glinting in the world’s civilization like a pearl. To demonstrate Wushu and its cultural content and artistic charm, the present research systematically studied and macroscopically explained the aesthetic culture of Chinese Wushu from the point view of sociology﹑culturology and aesthetics, by means of literature review, interviewing experts, logical analysis, comparative method and case study. The conclusions are as follow:1. Ever since the aesthetic consciousness of Wushu is formed, people create beauty of Wushu consciously, and typical aesthetic forms have been formed, such as two-in-one Wushu dance, independently presented routine, and so on. In addition, with regard to technical actions, people not only pay attention to body actions, but form aesthetic ideas of ‘both actions and soul’, that is, the technical beauty and artistic beauty of Wushu can only be presented by the agreement of actions and soul.2. With regard to the manner of aesthetic, Wushu has features of connotation, self-restrain, and laying stress on inner rather than outer. So we can comprehend the inner beauty of Wushu, which is ‘it is perceived rather than expressed’, only by means of feeling and perceiving, rather than by the western intuitionistic way.3. Imago is the core concept of classical aesthetics. All so-called ‘meaningful form’ must show out its imago, and this has been a criterion by which works of art are judged. Wushu routine is a typical meaningful form. When observing Wushu routine from the point of view of aesthetic, both players and audience are looking for a blend of real and imaginary.4. Aesthetic value is multivariant, but Wushu is influenced by the Chinese traditional value of ‘agreement of beauty and honesty’ and ‘personality reveals character of art’ in all fields of art and human culture. Therefore, ‘education of benevolence and etiquette, training of personality’ has been the core value of aesthetic of Wushu.5. Harmony is the key tone of the modern society. Actually, China advocates harmony since ancient times, and the Chinese are harmonic in born. Wushu origins and grows up in such a country, so harmony has been an ultimate goal of Wushu. We can feel such pursuit of Wushu both technically and morally. We can say that harmony is the core factor of Wushu, without which there is no beauty in Wushu. In a word, aesthetic culture of Chinese Wushu focuses on moralization, verve, imago, comprehension, and harmony, without which Wushu will be distorted and not be the actual ‘Wushu’ any longer. Wushu would lose its soul if it makes too much account of apparent, perceptual and complanation aspects. ‘It remains essentially the same despite all apparent changes’, this is the bottom-line of development of Wushu. Therefore, despite the domination of the visual culture in the modern society, Wushu still needs to preserve traditions and its own character. Wushu would not be assimilated only when the Chinese establish cultural self-respect and self-confidence. Tradition does not conflict with modernization, nor eastern with western; on the contrary, they agree with each other from many aspects, and we shall discover their agreements to enhance harmonic development thereof.
