With the development of the new course reforms,increasingly importance has been attached to the students'autonomous learning.Firstly,this paper gives the brief introduction of the definition of autonomous learning and some theoretical researches on autonomous learning and explains the theories which the study of English autonomous learning is based on .Secondly,by means of the questionnaires and interviews of the junior school students , the paper makes a study of the status quo of the junior school students'autonomous learning. As a result ,the current situation allows of no optimist.The findings of the present study are summarized as follows: Most students have instrumental motivations which are quite instable. In addition,the students are lacking in autonomous learning ability. Besides,they are short of the strategies of autonomous learning. Furthermore,they haven't got the habit of autonomous learning.And there is little time for students'autonomous learning in class.What's more,the students of different English levels show remarkable differences in autonomous learning.The greatest differences lie in motivation and ability .Thirdly,the paper analyses the reasons for the above problems in terms of three aspects. Finally,based on the above results and analyses,the paper makes some suggestions as to enhance the junior school students'autonomous learning from the aspects of stirring the students'integrative motivation,changing teaching style,teaching the students learning strategies and strengthening the students'self-evaluation.
