| Since the 20th century, the slogan of studying English has spread all over China. Obviously, English is of great importance in the Primary and Middle schools as a main subject. If the students in Junior High school and Senior High school want to study English well , it's a necessary element to have strong English reading skills ,which are one of the abilities demanded by New Curriculum Standard. English learning in two stages is different in the contents, so the students must accept different information. The Junior High school students can study English and finish reading tasks easily. Entering Senior High school, the students are hard to study English and reading , and some even feel tired of it and finally give up learning. If the students can master reading strategies and methods , and then use them freely in the beginning of Senior High school, they will break away from the model"practice"in Junior High school and get into the tense state of learning quickly. So the problem about cohesion in two stages is the key that the teachers want to deal with.Taking the theories of the up-down Approach, the interaction , and schema as the theoretical bases, the thesis did research into this subject. The writer designs two questionnaires——transition of Junior and Senior High school English reading instruction for the teachers & transition of Junior and Senior High school English reading comprehension for the students based on others'investigations. In addition , some teachers are interviewed to answer some questions . It aims at analyzing the states of teachers'English reading instruction and the students'English reading comprehension , and finding their similarities and differences & reasons. And it states the importance of transition , which is ready for further learning .This thesis consists of five chapters:Chapter One is the introduction which shows research background and significance. Some problems that are discussed in the thesis are also mentioned.Chapter Two is about literature reviews . The thesis generalizes the concepts of English reading , cohesion and some reading teaching theories----the Top-down approach , the Interactive approach and Schema theory. It shows us purposes and contents of reading , and factors that affect reading. Status quo about this subject home and abroad is provided , and the writer makes comments on them.Chapter Three specifies research on English reading instruction in the transition from Junior High school to Senior High School and analyzes the topic by doing questionnaires and interviews . The writer tells us about several factors to solve.Chapter Four aims at making clear the measures to reading teaching in details , based on the relevant data from the questionnaires and interviews in Chapter Three . The teachers should help the students accumulate amounts of knowledge of foreign language ; teach them to master reading strategies and adjust strategies of reading teaching;build up good evaluation.Chapter Five is the conclusion of the whole thesis . The author reflects on this research , and points out the contents to be surveyed in the future. |
