BACKGROUNDIt has become common that present university students on campus work part-time. Such a phenomenon has its own reasonable necessity. In 1999, China began to implement enrollment expansion of universities, "mass education" taking the place of "elite education", which leads to the great increase of the number of university graduates in recent years, reaching new heights every year. In 2010, the number of university graduates in China reached 6.3 million, resulting in graduates' apparently "difficulty in finding jobs". For a long time, China's education system is mainly examination-oriented. When college graduates turn to the job market from the campus, the shortcomings of lacking practical abilities reveals while the practical abilities is the most valued ability by enterprises when recruiting. Thus, the long-term and deep-seated reasons for the graduates' "difficulty in finding jobs" lie in the gap between the practical abilities of college students and the enterprises' needs. Some students go out of school and engage in part-time jobs, in order to enhance their practical skills and competitiveness in employment of the future. Meanwhile, the cost of college for the average families, especially for rural families, is also very high. Some of the students take part-time jobs to reduce the financial burden of the family. However, the current system of college students part-time job market is not mature and well-developed. The students working part-time are in the situation of fighting alone. It has been urgent to tackle such problems as how to guide the students to take meaningful and beneficial part-time jobs, how to regulate the market for part-time student workers, how to provide the necessary legal protection and system security for them and how to create a healthy and orderly environment of part-time work.OBJECTIVESThis study aims to call for the support from all aspects of society to positively treat the phenomena that college students work part-time; use practical means to gradually organize and optimize their part-time job markets; make sure that college students can work part-time efficiently and effectively.METHODSTotally, this study randomly selected three classes of 180 students from an university in Shandong as its subjects. Each class has 60 students. They are freshmen, sophomores and juniors. The primary methods adopted in this study are documentary study, questionaire, and interview.MAIN RESULTSTo work part-time on the part of the students is permitted by the laws of the country, and "Higher Education Law of the PRC" stipulates that:"Universities should provide students' social services and work-study activities with encouragement and support, and also with guidance and administration.""National Middle-and-long-term Educational Reform and Development Plan (2010-2020) (hereinafter referred to as "the Plan")" proposes to adhere to the capacity as the strategic objectives:to optimize the knowledge structure, to enrich social practices, and strengthen capacity-building. In the existing educational system, working part-time for college students is a process of passively selecting and actively adapting to the society, which shows that the college students are positive and improving along with the times. It is the attempts of college students to enrich their social practice and improve the practical ability by their own efforts and in their own way. It is in line with the strategic goals of higher education. Through analysis of the basic situation of college students working part-time, we find that the gender difference of part-time working students is not large; as the grade goes higher, the proportion of part-time working students is also increasing; economic factor is not the main reason for these students' engaging in part-time work; the students and the parents generally hold a supportive, positive attitude toward working part-timely, and the school would not interfere most of the time; most of the students want to get familiar with the society and train themselves though part-time job; and most of the students working part-time could properly deal with the relationship between part-time work and studying; college students consider working part-time is positive and beneficial for the development of themselves and increases their social experience.Through the analysis of the problems existing in college students' part-time working, we can see that the jobs available for college students to choose to work are quite limited and the paths through which college students can get part-time jobs are also very limited. College students still have to "fight alone" to solve the problems encountered in their part-time working.CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS:Regulation and perfection of the college student part-time job market need joint effort of students, universities and government departments:college students are required to make a good career plan and take a correct attitude towards part-time job; universities need to create more part-time jobs on campus, establish a special organization to guide the students in their part-time jobs, strengthen co-operations with enterprises; the enterprises should assume social responsibilities and do their bit for training talented people; government departments are required to improve related laws and rules to protect rights and interests of the colleges students who take part-time jobs.
