In recent years, the issue of"backwash", especially the influence of language tests on teaching and learning, has attracted a great deal of attention. Many researchers have studied on the backwash of NMET on the grade 3 classes in senior middle schools. They put forward their own opinion from different perspectives, such as from the research methodology, the effects of testing on the TEM4 or the English teaching and learning in secondary vocational schools, backwash of English test on the high school graduating students'learning motivation and test anxiety, analyzing the NMET papers, promoting the NMET and so on.By observing and investigating we find that in Grades 1 and 2, Learning Teaching Plan has taken the place of teaching plan and in Learning Teaching Plan there are language points related to NMET, which can not benefit the development of students in learning strategies, culture awareness, affect and attitude and so on. What is even worse, textbooks are neglected or laid away, which probably results in students losing the potential ability of making greater progress, that is to say, they can not develop their ability to use the English language in all-round ways. Teachers who often relate what they teach to NMET are highly thought of by students. In fact, the input of listening and reading and the output of speaking and writing are more important than the simple goal of getting high scores at the present for more and more grades 1and 2 students in senior middle schools.On the other hand, English teachers mainly depend on the Learning Teaching Plan in classroom teaching and learning. They devote their time to the Learning Teaching Plan and improving the scores of students. They have no enough time to read theory books on English teaching or make further study. It appears that teachers are freed from the burden of teaching, which does not contribute to the professional development of teachers.Based on the testing theory of Alderson and Wall and referring to the advanced research on the backwash of testing in recent years both at home and abroad as well as the teaching practice of the author'own, this study aims to further explore the backwash of NMET on teaching and learning in senior middle schools, especially on teachers′roles, Learning Teaching Plan, teachers′professional development and students′learning motivation, learning strategies, self-assessment and potential development in Grades 1 and 2. Besides, different teaching styles have different effects on the backwash of the NMET. Based on the side effects, helpful suggestions for the policy, test use, English teachers and students and so on are made to promote the beneficial influence of NMET and reduce its negative effects and to improve both the test and senior middle school English teaching and learning. Conducting this study may be beneficial in establishing the influence of a language test on language teaching.
