The rise of European Medieval Universities was the result of many kinds of factors. In the economy, the recovery and development of commodity economy needed knowledge and skills very urgently in the late Medieval European society; In culture, the Arabic translation movement promoted the dissemination and generation of knowledge in those days; In social development, the demand of urban residents stimulated the emergence of Medieval Universities in some degree. All these provided a favorable external environment for the birth of European Medieval Universities. In addition, ever-present monastery and its attached school established the organizational and traditional foundation for the rise of Medieval Universities. The impact of monastery on the rise of European Medieval Universities inquiry was the topic of this paper, the subject of article was to analyze the monastery's role during the rise of European Medieval Universities and to analyze its influence for the rise of European Medieval Universities. It was intended to clearly explain the impact which the former made on the latter and made a useful complement for the future research which related to this problem. My thesis included three parts: the preface, main body and concluding remarks. The body was consisted of five parts:The first part was the impact which monastery made on school place. The influence, monastery made, on the rise of European Medieval Universities was embodied in three respects which was teaching space and library and dormitory. The monastery provided the place of teaching activities for Medieval Universities. The quiet and elegant environment of the monastery sat a peaceful and rustic tone for Medieval Universities'atmosphere. And its church had ever been the place of teaching and holding kinds of activities for Medieval Universities. The monastery's library not only preserved the classical literature but also provided the ascetics with religious texts to learn and study. Medieval Universities draw the experience from monastery and doom the library as indispensable department of universities. Monastery was a place where the ascetics practiced and lived. It combined the functions of practice and life together. This accommodation system had an impact on the infrastructure of Medieval Universities. One of its results was the emergency of dormitory where students lived and studied. The second part was the impact on the composition and qualification of teachers and students. It mainly revealed the impact, monastery made, on the rise of European Medieval Universities from the composition and qualification of teachers and students. The requirements of the monastery for ascetics influenced the composition and qualification of the teachers whom could be employed and the students whom could be accepted by European Medieval Universities. The third part was the impact on teaching process. It chiefly explored the affect, monastery made, on European Medieval universities through teaching contents and teaching methods. The forth part was the impact on management system and regulations. There were various rules for monks in monastery. This actually ensured the normal monastic life. This mode provided a useful reference for European Medieval Universities. It made European Medieval Universities operate cosmically according to some rules and strategies. The last part was the impact on the type of talents training. The monastery as the basic organization of Christian church was served for Christianity in its nature. But in the particular social background, the monastery undertook more social responsibilities than it had and played multiple social roles. It was a social and cultural center, and had an effect on talents training for the development of society. Monastery and its affiliated schools carried out two types on personnel training, and one was"interni", the other was"externi". Medieval Universities also used this mode for cultivation talents. On the type of personnel training, Medieval Universities satisfied the needs of community by training two kinds of professional personnel: religious professionals and secular professional personnel.
