Reading is necessary in the English teaching, and is very important in students'development. But, for a long time, there are many weak points in reading teaching in our country. In classes, teachers play an emphasis on language knowledge and neglect the context. As a result, gradually students lose interest in English, which is harmful to the students'full development.How to improve teaching efficiency to satisfy the students'need is a difficult problem for teachers to solve. Based on the author's personal understanding about Constructivism and Krashen's Affective Filter Hypothesis, the author suggests that the situation-based teaching can enable us to improve our teaching effectively.When carrying out the research, the author chose two classes, one as the experimental class where the situation-based teaching was adopted, the other as the control class where the traditional teaching method was used. With the help of pre-testing and post-testing, we can learn the necessity and possibility of situation-based teaching. During the research, the author also employed questionnaire and interview to get to know teachers'and students'attitudes towards the situation-based teaching and what we should pay attention to when we are using the situation-based teaching in reading classes.The research shows that the situation-based teaching is very popular with teachers and students. It arouses the students'interest in English, makes the students think actively and improve the students'ability. In the meantime, the situation-based teaching develops the teachers'ability as well.The research confirms that there is no doubt that the situation-based teaching is of great benefit to the improvement of reading teaching.
