Task-based language teaching,first proposed as a new educational concept in 1980 s,has experienced more than 30 years' development and become more mature by making impressive progress in both theoretical and practical research.Task-based language teaching places emphasis on cultivating students' innovative ability and practical ability to adapt to the development of English teaching.It plays an important role in English teaching,which is of great significance to the present English teaching reform of basic education.China has promulgated Ordinary Senior High School English Curriculum Standard of Full-Time Compulsory Education(experiment draft),Ordinary High School English Curriculum Standard(experiment draft)and Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standard.They all advocate the application of Task-based language teaching,open and Task-based teaching activities or Task-based language teaching approach to English teaching.Based on teaching practice,the author studied and concluded the related concepts,summarized and analyzed the development of task-based language teaching theory and the present research situation at home andabroad,and practically explored the feasibility of putting task-based language teaching theory into English reading teaching practice in senior high schools.After carrying out practical research on the application of Task-based language teaching to Grade One students' English reading class in one of the senior high schools of Southern Ningxia through questionnaires and experiments,it has been found that the students of experimental class have significantly improved their reading level and academic achievements,shown more interests in English reading with positive reading motivation,and made distinct development in mastering and using reading strategies.Therefore,this research has fully proved the effectiveness of Task-based language approach in senior high school English reading teaching.
