In the process of English teaching, English reading plays an important part in Senior High School English teaching. However, traditional teaching method focuses on the vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure, so it makes students ignore the understanding of the passage to a great degree. In addition, some students lose their interests in English studying because of endless vocabulary and boring grammar. In order to stimulate the students'interest and activity and improve the students'reading ability, this article would make a research on the application of discourse analysis strategy to English reading in senior high schools.This article consists of four parts and combines theory with practice. The first part is literature review. In this part, the writer analyses and concludes the theory of reading, reading strategy and discourse analysis, then the writer expresses her own understanding.The second part is questionnaire survey. In order to know the teaching situation in high school reading and the students'main obstacles during the reading in senior high school, before the experiment, the author makes a survey, the survey refers to the reading teaching models in high school and the methods that the students use in reading, the result of the survey is analyzed and concluded after the survey.The third part is application and research of the experiment. In order to research into the feasibility and effect of the discourse analysis strategy in senior high school, the author carried out the experiment in the two classes where the writer acts as English teacher. Before the experiment, a test is given to the two classes, and the result of the test is analyzed. During the experiment, the author uses traditional teaching methods in control class, that is to put emphasis on teaching grammar and words while the author use discourse analysis strategies to teach experimental class, that is to analyze the context by macro analysis and microscopic analysis at first, then try to absorb and understand the context, the author takes "Olympic Games" for example, explain how to use discourse analysis strategies in the teaching of reading. After the experiment, the author makes another test for the two classes, the result of the experiment indicates that the average score of the experimental class is much better than that of the control class.The forth is conclusion. The result of the survey proves that compared with traditional reading method, the teaching strategy of discourse analysis is helpful in improving students'reading ability. In the English teaching in senior high school, it is effective to instruct students to use the method of discourse analysis on purpose and it deserves other English teachers to apply discourse analysis strategy in their teaching of English.
