With the senior high school enrollment expansion, the quality of art students in high schools is getting more and more complicated. The source of the art students has a great effect on English teaching. Most of the art students'foundation of English is very weak and many of them lack learning interest. Having been an art school teacher for about 10 years, the author finds that these students also have a good desire to improve their English learning ability and to find a good job in the future. But because of all kinds of factors, they can not get good learning achievements, and this leads to their boring of English learning, especially for reading. The English teaching of Senior Schools faces unprecedented challenge.How to solve this problem is what many English teachers are thinking about. To solve this problem, the English teachers should learn about the students and think where the problem lies. Interest has been a fashionable word in language teaching and learning in foreign acquisition in recent years. Piaget said"All intelligence activities should depend on the interest."This points out the importance of interest. Interest is a tendency that one has to study the positive thing or explore some activities. This trend is occurring and developing in social practice. A strong interest can develop the students'curiosity about language and arouse the students'strong motivation for learning to make them work hard. Only when the students have strong interest can he feel the fun of learning, that's the truth of learning. So, the author focuses on improving the students'learning interest in the learning process in order to improve the English learning efficiency. Because English learners in China can get the knowledge and improve their learning ability mainly by English reading, the author made teaching experiments about how to develop the students'reading interest.The author takes the two classes which she teaches as the research subjects. Class Fourteen is served as the control class while Class Fifteen is served as the experimental class. The traditional teaching methods are used in the control class and various teaching methods are used in the experimental class to arouse the students reading interest. Then the author collects the students'achievements of pre-test and post-test, and used SPSS to make a descriptive analysis about the survey data. According to the data analysis, the author puts forward some advice and methods about the students'reading interest.The thesis explains the pushing function of interest in English reading from the perspectives of pedagogy and psychology. In fact interest in English reading is the most meaningful element among the learning motivations. The experiment shows that students'concentration, lively thinking, sharp perception, rich inspiration and strong confidence in English reading should be stimulated and developed. The thesis lays stress on the some useful opinions and methods about how to arouse the art students'interest in English reading. The experiment shows that it will be helpful for the art students in senior high school. Einstein once said:"Interest is the best teacher."The art students will not feel that reading is a burden if they are interested in studying English, at the same time, they will put their hearts into reading actively. Arousing the interest of the art students is the key to learn English reading well. Reading interest can promote the students to throw themselves into studying enthusiastically. It also can enrich the students'knowledge, open the students'mind, widen their visions, and enhance their interest in English.A proverb says :"Books are the ever-burning lamp of accumulated wisdom."So reading has a great influence on people. So long as the student learns with interest, he can enjoy the learning process. It is the essence of learning. As a matter of fact, the topic about study interests has been the concern of many researchers, but reading interest about the art students in senior high school is often neglected by the researchers, and there have been few studies on their learning. That's what this research intends to find out here. This thesis is attempting to expound on the helpful ways of arousing the interests of the art students in senior high schools and to study the methods of arousing students'interest, hoping that this study can benefit language teachers, learners and researchers to a certain degree and can spark more research in this area in the future.
