The official establishment of China-ASEAN free trade zone and the upgrading of Beibu Gulf economic zone to national strategy, bring new opportunities to Guangxi at its critical period of economic and social development. In this new situation, Guangxi needs a large quantity of international ASEAN-oriented talents with international view, professional knowledge and plenty vigor and vitality. In Education Work Conference of Guangxi in 2010, it was put forward that, by 2020, Guangxi would have build up an international ASEAN-oriented plateau of exchange and cooperation of education. This indicates that the exchange and cooperation of education is not expediency for Guangxi to strike out towards ASEAN, but strategic cooperation on the future.Recent years, the vocational higher colleges in Guangxi have launched close exchange and cooperation of education with ASEAN countries by paying interscholastic visits, promoting academic exchange, running schools cooperatively, exchanging teachers and students and so on. These activities have brought extraordinary economic and social effect, and laid a sound foundation for the sustainable development of the cooperation of vocational higher education between Guangxi and the ASEAN countries.This paper studies present situation of the exchange and cooperation of education among three ASEAN-oriented vocational higher colleges in Guangxi with the study methods of literature research, field survey and case study, including face-to-face talks with students from these Chinese-foreign run colleges. The survey shows that, with the support of the national and local government policies and the education's own extraordinary advantages, the exchange and cooperation of education between the vocational higher colleges in Guangxi and ASEAN countries is increasing day by day; the cooperative patterns are becoming more and more pluralistic; the exchanges among the students are more and more frequent. However, with a late beginning and lacking of experience, the vocational higher education in Guangxi still faces problems of fixing a clear position for its colleges, setting up proper foreign-related curriculums, recruiting more teachers, improving the administrative mechanism of going overseas students, etc.In view of the above problems, this paper puts forward strategies to promote the ASEAN-oriented vocational higher colleges in Guangxi:first, to define the talent-training goal of the vocational higher Colleges, and increase the practicability of the specialized subjects; second, to reform the curriculums of the cooperative project, improve the quality of the co-teaching activities and the approving effect of the curriculums; third, to create its own distinguishing characteristic by improving its graduates'competitive ability in employment; fourth, to set up an aim in the administrative mechanism, improve the educational and administrative mechanism of transnational students, promote the exchanging students from the vocational higher colleges in Guangxi and the ASEAN countries.
