The Standard of The Geography Course of High School (test),issued in April2003,indicating that our country's geography course reform has stepped into a new era. New geography textbook of high shool is the most important achievements in the course reform, because the appearance of different visions of textbooks under the same standard has changed the old practice of our country. The geography teachers and geographical education colleagues studied the new textbooks in different perspectives and different levels. The question about the use of geography teaching textbook and how to use them should be the core and key matter in the research of the new textbooks at the moment. Based on the People Education Press's version, this article analyze the teaching function as well as the current situation and problems of the use of the new materials, and then put forward some advice on how to use these materials based on the teaching function.The main contents of this article include the following several parts:The first part is an introduction-to identify the basic points of the research. This part mainly introduces the background and significance of the research, summarizes the current situation, achievements and existing problems of the research at home and abroad, and then put forward the basic ideas and technological methods useful for the research.The second part is the concept definition. This part focuses on making clear the object of study, and mainly expounds several basic conceptions related to the research object, including the function of teaching and teaching materials, and the teaching function of textbooks.The third part is the theoretical basis. From the perspective of geography course theory, teaching theory, learning theory, media theory, system theory, this part explores the new geography teaching materials with multi-dimensions to find out the theory basis and support of the teaching function.The fourth part is a detailed explanation of the new geography teaching textbook teaching function. This part analyses the new materials teaching function from the perspective of the whole system, with comprehensive consideration of the teaching system, learning system and the unity of the two. The teaching function of textbooks will be empty if it's not closely related to the practice of teaching, and it contributes to the whole function system together with other features and functions of the textbooks. The fifth part is the investigation and analysis of the present situation. Through the questionnaire, we have a primary understanding of the opinions that teachers and students have about the new materials, including their understanding of the new textbooks'function, the way they use the textbooks, and the problems they meet when in the process.The sixth part probed into specific strategies of solving these problems. Through the analysis of theory and practice and choosing the version of the People Education Press, we divide the whole into three parts, that is, contents part, main body part and research part. Focusing on each part, we analyze the embodiment of the teaching function, put forward some using strategies of the contents, and form a new using strategy system of high school geography course based on the function of teaching.The seventh part is the conclusion in which we summarize the main ideas and conclusion of the study, reflect on the deficiencies of this paper, and discuss the future of the research.
