Stereotype is an inevitable and universal phenomenon and has a positive or negative role in intercultural communication. With a superficial and simplistic characteristic, it is relatively stable but variable. Hangzhou is one of the most economically developed cities of China's southeast coastal areas, a growing number of China foreign guests'work and life in China will be affected by their stereotypes toward China and Chinese people. Thus, in-depth monitoring of their stereotype changes has far-reaching and practical significance. The sampling method for the study was a snowball convenience sampling, five Filipinos working in Hangzhou were chosen as the participants. A narrative inquiry research was conducted for a year in order to verify:1) What stereotypes did the Filipinos embrace towards Chinese before they came to china?2) What stereotype changes are they going through during their stay in China?3) How could we learn from stereotype changes to facilitate the acculturation?Chapter four analyzed the data collected. It shows that there are great differences but some parts are overlapping during the process of stereotype changes. Participants'personalities and motivations, communication skills as well as value played essential roles. The length of their duration has exerted no immediate influence. In view of this kind of situation, the researcher proposes some practical and feasible suggestions, such as deepening understanding, learning the language, respecting the opposite party's religion, noticing individulized contextual differences and cultivating your own effective communication strategies so that the foreigners could engage in better intercultural communication.
