Cycling in China is an emerging sport. As the sport is low carbon emission, it should be promoted vigorously. In an attempt to look for the development of the Hong Kong Cycling community, a way to promote a healthy exercise for Hong Kong and to make positive suggestions to the relevant government departments, this paper makes recommendations and serves as a reference for other commercial and research organizations in this area. Through the analysis of relevant literature, available data, survey and interviews with the Hong Kong cycling communities, this paper comes up with the following conclusions:1.There were more male than female participants in Hong Kong bicycle communities with a very severe imbalance ratio. The two main age groups were in the25-44age group and45-60age group. Their occupations were mainly jobs in the service and commercial industry and home makers. There had been a graduate growth in the number of participants in the past few years. However, there was a slight decrease in the last years which should raise a red flag that may require further investigation.2. Participants joined the bicycle community mainly through their friends. The main reasons were to improve physical fitness, expand social networks and increase in leisure travel. Interestingly, promotion of philanthropy was also a reason to join the community.3. Participants improved their cycling skills mainly through the guidance of other experienced members and mutual learning among members via the variety of weekend activities such as cycling tours and other organizational activities. However, activities like safety and bicycle maintenance seminars were not too popular. Safety awareness was low.4. The vast majority of the participants felt that the expenses of the group activities were reasonable. They were extremely satisfied with the frequency and duration of the proposed activities and did not suggest any changes. However, there were some who did suggest increasing the activity frequency; extending them to other areas besides Hong Kong in green trails, highways, cross-country trails and to join activities of other community organizations.5.There was a lack of safety awareness among most of the participants. Because of the lack of safety discipline and not enough safety facilities on the roads, most of the participants had suffered injuries. However, most of them were minor and did not require any major medical attention.6.The main objectives of bicycle communities were to organize races, tours, leisure cycling and promote cycling. The objectives could basically be achieved through the organization's activities. While remaining status quo, activities could be improved but limited because of the lack of support from the government such as road safety polices and facilities for cyclers.
