Design Of Microstrip Conformal Antenna Array

With the development of the spacecraft, it is urgently required that the antenna array can conformal with the vector of vehicle, missiles, satellites. Because it doesn't destroy the auto structure of the vector and the character of the dynamics, and the conformal array can still satisfy its performance, it become a hotspot in the field of the antenna.First of all, microstrip antennas are the subject of this research activity due to their unique advantages, especially their low weight, simple structure, and low cost of fabrication. However, microstrip antennas still suffer from narrow bandwidth. The author is engaged in the research on improving the bandwidth. Several microstrip antennas used for conformal array are implementedThen, the conformal array on the first order surface is discussed that an ordinarily side-feed rectangle microstrip antenna is used for the unit and a cylindrical array of eight units is designed according to the fronts. The simulation and test results all satisfy the requirements.Finally, the conformal array on the second order surface is discussed that double-layer broadband microstrip antenna is used for the unit and a spherical conformal array is designed. The problem of polarization elimination is analyzed. By rotating each unit, the shadow of the polarization in the horizontal plane is parallel and the problem about the polarization elimination was resolved. And the rotation angle is simplified as the small area of the array. According to the requirements of the project, the studies focused on the distance between the units and the scope where arranged the units were implemented. An excellent array is obtained and also a series of general formulas were proposed. The final design is verified by simulation reliability.
