VoIP also be called IP telephone, Internet phone, which is used of Internet technology for voice communication's new business. Along with the Internet on the rise in the worldwide and speech coding technology's development, VoIP obtains the breakthrough and practical application, and also is gradually occupying the telephone service's market. Because the VoIP technology promotes the use of network resources, reduces the cost of voice services, which has been rapidly development in the world. Presently, VoIP has become one of the most widely and spread application technology. And VoIP technology meets the triple play (telephone network, cable television, Internet) development direction. Based on this, the design of VoIP terminal has the very high research value and considerable market potential.Based on the depth study of the SIP protocol and VoIP technology in the paper, and according to the needs analysis, combined with the study of the research at home and abroad, ultimately realize a embedded telephone terminal, which supports calls, text messages, contacts and other features. In this paper, the main study content as follows:(1) Analysis the basic principles of VoIP and the key technology, based on the embedded theory, put forward a design scheme which could realize the VoIP telephone terminal, based on based on BF531.(2) Build the system platform, study the work mechanism of the uCLinux operating system. And build the cross-compiler environment, based on it, realize the configuration and compilation and of the uCLinux operating system. For terminal session management, voice transmission and the design of the human-computer interaction and other functions to provide a good support.(3) On the embedded system platform, develop the VoIP telephone terminal's application, and realize the graphical and embedded terminal which supports many features. Combine with the existing experimental environment, put forward the test program of the VoIP telephone terminal.The result shows that the sound quality is clear and fluent during the calling, and also has less delay, the VoIP telephone terminal could meet the need of voice communication.This paper will also be focused on the development of graphical user interface (GUI). GUI is used of open source software Qt/E for development. This software is one of the most used widely in the embedded system. Because of its open source nature, making this design not only saves development costs, but also can develop a good user experience of GUI application.
