In the process of the economical and social development in Yunnan ethnic minority areas, the ethnic festivals have become the important platforms to showcase the ethnic cultures for their strong focus on cultural characteristics. The development of ethnic festivals is the main way to promote economy and society in ethnic areas, and the festivals also have become the important resources to develop the ethnic culture industry in Yunnan province.There are lots of ethnic festivals in Yunnan province, which not only have relatively independent systems, but also diversify their subject contents. Along with the development of society, economy and culture, the traditional ethnic festivals also changes day by day. Some of them are disappearing, with others which have been reserved change a lot in their culture contents, festival forms and shapes. Rational exploit of these festivals will transmit the cultural values and patterns, enhance the collective identities and group cohesion, maintain social harmony and stability. To exploit and develop the ethnic festivals could not only improve the material lives, living expectations and conditions of ethnic people, but also regulate the public sentiment, strengthen the cultural and emotional communication, and enrich their cultural lives.According to the requirements of modern society and economy, the development of ethnic festivals benefits the protection of ethnic culture heritages, the maintenance of cultural diversity and strengthening the ethnic identities, which also is helpful to promote the culture industry development, increase productivity and progresses of society and economy in ethnic areas. Meanwhile, the exploit also need to require some cultural basis, meet certain economic conditions and focus on influences of other social factors.The development of ethnic festivals achieved primarily through three types:First, on the basis of the traditional festivals, achieved the "modernization" transformation by partly changing the cultural aspects, extending their forms or putting into some economic factors, etc. Second, relying on an ethnic-specific cultural resource or natural resource, achieved the "artificial" production by creating a new type of festivals. Third, make the ethnic culture, art, trade, tourism, outreach and other elements to be re-integrated to achieve the "comprehensive" development. No matter what type of development model closely links to the tourism and economy of the ethnic regions, affecting the reproduction process of their culture, economy and society, highlighting the economic benefits and achieving the versatility of ethnic festivals. However, there are also some problems which have been exposed during the exploit process are worth of studying and researching.In the development and transformation process, the ethnic festivals is being injected some new and personalized contents, or put into some modern elements in order to reach the combination of tradition and modern, also the integration of culture and economy. The essence of it is to make the ethnic festivals become cultural products which could reach the needs of modern society and achieve the economic benefits ultimately. Meanwhile, the purpose is to find out the integration point of culture and market, enhancing their cultural tastes and economic potentials, which has become the very important issue in the transformation of ethnic festivals. At last, exploiting the ethnic festivals is an effective way to protect and develop ethnic cultural heritage and also an important method to promote economic and social lives in ethnic areas, which can achieve the transformation from ethnic cultural resources to cultural capitals and the integration of culture and society in its own region.
