As the important support of economic development, SME (small and medium-sized enterprises), especially, those with rapid growing speed are the major driving factors for the national economy'sustainable and swift development; in addition, the pillar role manufacturing industry plays in is China's industry, making research into the growth of SMEs vitally necessary. Hence, this paper carried out empirical studies on the growth of manufacturing SMEs listed in China.Firstly, by literature reviewing, concerned with enterprise growth, and theory studying, associated with SMEs'growth, this paper builds an evaluation model for manufacturing SMEs listed in China through two steps, establishment of index system and selection of evaluation method. The index system for manufacturing SMEs listed in China is built from the qualitative perspective and by applying analysis method; for the evaluation method, based on the comparison of existing methods, aiming to both further complete those exiting ones and fill evaluation needs, the improved principal component method is finally selected, adding a new evaluation method to the SME growth evaluation system.Secondly, according to the definition of SME, 385 manufacturing SMEs listed are selected as our research sample, using which growth study on the manufacturing SMEs listed in China is carried out based on the evaluation model established within this paper. We explores the factors, internal factors and external factors, influencing the growth of manufacturing SMEs in line with the empirical result obtained previously and further reveals the relationship between the manufacturing SMEs growth and regional economic development from the quantitative point of view. Then the paper explores the implications of these findings for policies aimed at facilitating the growth of manufacturing SMEs listed in China.
