Study On Prospect Of The Development Of Carbon Sequestration Forest In China

Global warming is a major challenge facing the entire human race. The internationalcommunity is paying more attention to it and provides a series of measures to solve the problem.These changes are beginning to affect widespread area of the society. Chinese forestry industrywill benefit from carbon sink. As is well known, forest has carbon sequestration function ofabsorbing CO2, which playing an important role in slowing global warming. Compensatingecological service will make a significant sense to the development of our forestry industry.Through profound analysis of the connotation of forestry carbon sequestration, bycombining with the situation of China and Chinese forest, the thesis discusses the necessity andpossibility of developing carbon sink forest. Such a development not only can introduce extrafunds used at forestry construction, but also contribute to climate negotiations. Based on thedata of continuous forest inventory of China from1973~2008, carbon storage of the forestbiomass and the whole forest ecosystem are estimated. The growing data displays the potentialof supply of forestry carbon sink. On the demand side, with the development of economyawareness and standardization of forestry carbon sequestration market, demand from enterprise,government department, individual, international conference and non-profit organization will becreated. In the market without the framework of Kyoto Protocol, forestry carbon sink projecthave brought in good returns these years. But China has not established forestry carbon tradingplatform. Chinese forestry carbon market mechanism is needed to be established as soon aspossible.Based on GM(1,1) of Grey System Theory, this paper forecasts the potential economicbenefits to the forestry industry by forestry carbon trading. Results on the basis of the currentparameter, Chinese carbon sequestration from2009to2023will increase year by year.According to the average price of voluntary over-the-counter market, Chinese forestry carbonmarket will be worth as much as billions of dollars. So there will be a good market fordeveloping carbon sequestration forest.
