The outfitting work of a ship runs through the whole process of shipbuilding, with a series of features such as various contents, comprehensive engineering technology, much cooperation, poor construction conditions, and long time one cycle and so on. Quantities of outfitting generally are 50% of the total quantity amount to 60%, and it may be even higher for those more complex and special vessels. The running quality of outfitting process has direct effect on the production efficiency of shipbuilding, especially the dock cycle. To improve the efficiency and cut the cost time of the dock cycle, it is useful to apply pre-outfitting to shipbuilding. The rate of pre-outfitting will directly affect the speed and cycle of shipbuilding.Modern shipbuilding model is based on shortening the construction cycle, expanding the total shipbuilding amount and lowering labor costs as fundamental guiding ideologies. It is an assembly shipbuilding mode with a basic feature that its production organization is based on interim products. Modern shipbuilding model is made up of some basic compositions such as the shipbuilding logos of the overall optimization, production-oriented design techniques, balanced and continuous processes, rigorous project management and efficient and rational organization of production. In order to complete outfitting and painting work while finishing the hull building, the group technology and pallet management are introduced in modern shipbuilding model, which can unitize discrete operations, planarize three-dimensional operations and parallelize regional operations.As an application research on the group technology and pallet management of the ship outfitting, this thesis chooses a 3500 TEU container ship as the research model, which is the main shape of Shanghai shipyard Co.,Ltd. On the vessel, the regional shipbuilding method is applied. Using the group technology principle, the function of the vessel is divided into a number of relatively independent standard interim products. Oriented with interim product and according to the principle of Integration Hull Construction, Outfitting and Painting(IHOP), the integrity of sub-assembly and pre-installed can be improved by fine pallet managemen. Studies show that the rate of shipyard pre-outfitting greatly improved from the original 70%-80%, now increased to 95%. Meanwhile, due to the application of the group technology and pallet management, the cost time of a dock cycle is cut from four months to the current two months. Therefore, it is essential for a shipyard to apply the group technology and pallet management on outfitting. It not only can shorten shipbuilding cycle and expand scale, but also improve economic interest.
