Chongqing, The Development Of The Tourism Industry And Economic Performance Evaluation Studies

Tourism has strong comprehensiveness, wide driving effect, low employment threshold, large employment capacity, low resource consumption and low production cost, and it is labor intensive. These characteristics endow tourism the important mission of boosting the development of economy in China in the new period, especially in post financial crisis era. Since the announcement of State Council No. 41 Document in 2009, all levels of government and academic circles pay great attention to the important effect of tourism on local economy. The analysis and assessment of the economic performance of tourism is focus of scholars. However, until now, the researches on it are relatively superficial. The researches about present developmental situation of local tourism, expanding the scale of tourism, cooperative relations among areas and management situation of tourism lack deep analyses. Therefore, this thesis will base on these purposes.Firstly, this thesis briefly introduces the research background and research significance. And then the paper offers the literature review and conclusion of related researches both at home and abroad. On the basis of them, the thesis presents the research content, methodology and technical route.Secondly, chapter Two describes the concept of correlation and the theories like tourism multiplier, location and disequilibrium, which lay good foundation for establishing the economic performance assessment system of local tourism. From the perspective of tourism destination output, chapter Three chooses the economic scale of tourism, levels of management, the contribution degree to employment and the basic developmental force as the indexes of the assessment system. The research subjects are 13 representative districts and counties in Chongqing.Thirdly, under the background of the analysis of the development of tourism in Chongqing, through the empirical study by factor analysis, EXCEL and SAS, the paper makes the following conclusion: the economic performance level of the tourism of the 13 representative districts and counties are relatively low. The gap between the highest score and the lowest score is large. The polarization is serious. The economic situation and recourse endowment among areas are not balanced, which is one of the important reasons for the different performance level of tourism. Most of the districts and counties do not have balanced scores in the main three factors. Quality and quantity of them do not develop harmoniously.Lastly, the paper puts forward the suggestions to improve the economic performance level of tourism in Chongqing from three perspectives, that is, expanding the economic scale of Chongqing tourism, strengthening the cooperation among all districts and counties, and improving the management level of Chongqing tourism.
