In recent years, our industrial output value has gained rapid increase. The development of industrial economy has accomplished remarkable achievements. Industrial development has brought more material comforts and better quality of service to people's life. However, in the industrial development and the progress of technology at the same time, industry has more and more influence on resources. With the conflict between the environment and the industry is sharpened. Human has gradually realized the consequences of over-grab resources and pay attention to the harmonious development of economy and ecology. However, usually people only focus on the emission levels of production process. Actually, from the industrial raw material, product manufacturing, mining to commodity consumption of each link, will occupy a lot of resources and generate ecological burden. Therefore, in order to estimate industry department's impact on the environment objectively, research should be expanded in the whole production process, not only the production process. By the way of the material flow analysis, this paper gives a quantitative analysis of industrial pressure on the environment, and then discusses the sustainable development of the industry.Firstly this paper introduces the development process of material flow method, the theoretical basis, the system boundary and the material flow calculation program.Secondly, China's industrial sector is the object of study. Using the data from 1990 to 2008 as samples, this article is based on material flow analysis to establish the industrial sector of material input, output, the material balance and the material utilization, include: direct material input account, total material requirement account, domestic processed output account, direct material output account, net addition to stock account, physical trade balance account, material productivity account, intensity of material consumption account, density of material consumption account.In the end, this paper gives an overview of the sustainable development of the China's industrial sector based on the material flow account according to actual condition. The main conclusions in this article are given as follows: First, in 1990-2008, the direct material inputs increased from 8.933 billion tons to 34.295 billion tons, increased 283.91 percent, the average annual growth of 8.5 percent; the total material requirement increased from 286.04 billion tons to 1987.13 billion tons, increased 594.70 percent, the average annual growth of 11.7 percent. This may illuminate our industrial resources is in great demand and rising trend. In the second place, from the NAS, the industrial material inputs is greater than output, this shows that there are always new material to remain in the system; from the PTB, in recent years, the real total trade remained surplus basically (except for 1995), and presented a rising trend. The third, our industrial material utilization is lower than the industrialized countries. And from this we can have an idea about the China's industrial department of environmental pressure.
