Empirical Analysis On The Relationship Between Cultural Industry And Economic Growth

Culture industry is the product when human civilization comes to a certain stage. Having the character of extensive industry relevance and marginal utility, culture industry has become the key and pillar industry in many developed countries. In China, the development of cultural industry is relatively slower, it hasn't become a pillar industry of national economy according to the 2008 economic census data——our cultural industry sector accounted for 2.46% of GDP. In March 2011, at the fourth session of the 11th National People's Congress, a draft plan published for the 12th five-year put forward specifically" promote culture industry to become a national pillar industry ".This reference highlighted the determination and confidence to build our country with great cultural power.Culture industry and economy has a kind of interdependent relationship. On one hand the development of cultural industry produces tremendous economic value, making enormous contribution to the growth of the national economy; on the other hand, economic growth provides favorable material and wide spaces for the development of culture industry, such as funding support, high-quality talents and huge market demand.Compared with domestic research, foreign scholars pay attention on culture industry earlier, producing many academic works. Recently domestic scholars also pay more and more attention to the cultural industry. While the works are mainly about qualitative research, and quantitative research existed are confined to the overall national or local area research. There is no further quantitative study according to different levels of cultural industry and different regional economic growth. Considering there is big difference among the nature of culture industry levels and three economic regions, we need further detailed research, aiming to provide suggestions for all the regions in the development of culture industryThis paper focuses on the following issues:How much is the elasticity of culture industry on economic growth? Are there significant differences in elasticity for different culture industry levels to economic growth in different regions? Whether the correlation coefficients between culture industry and economy growth are different according to different culture industry levels and different economic regions? Whether our country's thirty-one provinces are in the coordination situation considering the development of culture industry and economic growth?This paper basically consists of five parts:ChapterⅠis an introduction, it presents the background and significance of topics, the concept of culture industries, the illustration of data and regional division, literature review including foreign and domestic literature, the paper writing ideas and methods, the basic structure, and the innovation and insufficient.The second, third and fourth chapters, which are the empirical parts, are the core of this article. The chapterⅡbuilds elasticity model to study culture industry contribution elasticity to our economic growth. Firstly from the nationwide, describe the country's 31 provinces'cultural industry contribution to economic growth. And then from industrial structure angle to establish different linear models according to the different culture industry levels and different regions'added value,using principal component analysis method to removing the influence of multiple line, deducing contribution elasticity. Finally separately from the angles of different regions and different culture industry levels, the paper studies the culture industry contribution elasticity to our national economy, aiming to find the difference, and explain the empirical results.The chapterⅢcalculates correlative coefficient among the three regions. First of all, difference test and unusual values test are done to make empirical results meaningful. Then separately from the angles of different regions and different culture industry levels, the paper calculates correlative coefficient between culture industry and economic growth, aiming to find the difference, and explain the empirical results.The chapter IV firstly introduces coordination model to research thirty-one provinces'culture industry development and calculate coordination degree and coordination development level of thirty-one provinces in 2008. And then classify 31 provinces according to the empirical coordination results.The chapterⅤdraws a conclusion mainly based on the empirical analysis and then points out the existing problems in the development of cultural industry and points out the role of culture industry should play in the development of economy.Finally it gives several suggestions on how to vigorously develop culture industry and promote economic and cultural prosperity.The innovations of this paper are mainly about three points:Firstly, separately from the angles of different regions and different culture industry levels, the paper studies the relationship between Cultural Industry and economic growth. Secondly, from industrial structure angle, establish different linear models according to the different culture industry levels and different regions'added value. Thirdly the paper introduces coordination model to research thirty-one provinces culture industry and economic growth coordination situation and classify.
