The Jiangsu province lies within the subtropical zone and warm temperate zone. It experiences subtropical monsoon climate and warm temperate monsoon climate. It characterized by plain. The favourable climate and geographical conditions bring about a large variety of ecological environments, rich in biological diversity.The biodiversity assessment is taken in order to protect abundant wildlife and their habitats. In recent years, as a result of the changing from farmland to construction land, the urgent land demand of increasing population and heavy environmental pollutions, the wildlife and their habitats have been destroyed severely. Some of the endangered species are on the brink of extinction. Therefore the work of biodiversity assessment and conversation admits of no delay.The study chooses the methodology of comprehensive biodiversity assessment which The State Environmental Protection Administration prescribed. The species richness, the diversity of ecosystem types, the completeness of vertical stratification of vegetation, the results as follow:This assessment also compares botany indexes among different floras, animal indexes among different faunas of13municipal cities in Jiangsu. The result shows that BI of Wuxi is the highest which indicates ecosyestms of Wuxi is the stablest among13municipal cities in Jiangsu.The biodiversity assessment on all of the countries (or boroughs) shows that30countries (or boroughs) such as Yixing are evaluated as Very Rich with BI over65and the other countries (or boroughs) are evaluated as Good with BI between40and65. The comparision among countries(or boroughs) of Jiangsu and those of other provinces(autonomous regions or municipality cities) in China shows that7countries(or boroughs) including Nanjing urban area, Pukou, Jiangning, Liuhe, Yixing, Suzhou urban area, Jurong are evaluated as Moderate with BI between30and40and the others are evaluated as Poor.The innovation of this thesis is studies on plant diversity and animal diversity and conservation in Nanjing province, and the object of this research is to provide theories and methods for the program on conservation and act of biodiversity in Jiangsu.
