Liquid crystal spatial Light modulator (LCSLM) is the key device of optical information process, which has a lot of advantages including high resolution ratio, high speed, low power consumption and so on. Application of LCSLM in the optical field is more and more widely. In this paper, applications of Liquid crystal spatial Light modulator in optical vortices and collinear holography are studied. In the field of optical vortices, in this paper, a vortex beam with different topological charges is generated by using reflected type phase only liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LCSLM), and the interference characters of a vortex beam and a plane wave and a spherical wave are analyzed. When the CCD’s location is away from image plane, there is a dark core in the vortex center. An increment of topological charge results in the diameter of the dark core. Experiment and theoretical analysis are practically consistent. Experimental results show that, using the LCSLM, vortex beams with different topological charges can be generated dynamically in real time. Energy conversion efficiency is up to60%.In the field of collinear holography, collinear holographic image storage was realized in a BR-D96N film by using transmission type amplitude LCSLM. Compared with non-collinear holographic storage, in collinear holographic storage system, small volume, low environmental effect and the high density storage were realized, but the SNR of the diffractive images was low.The whole paper is divided into four chapters. Chapter1:The principle and application of LCSLM are reviewed. Chapter2:First, The history and generations of the optical vortices are reviewed, and the main applications are also summarized. Second, vortex beams are theoretical analyzed. At last, a vortex beam is generated by using reflected type phase only LCSLM, and the interference characters of a vortex beam and a plane wave and a spherical wave are analyzed. Chapter3:Collinear optical holographic storage was realized in a BR-D96N film by using transmission type amplitude LCSLM. Chapter4:Summary and expectation.
