Geographic Information System (Geography Information System, referred to GIS) isused for the collection、storage、management、processing、retrieval, analysis and expressionof spatial data of computer system. Geographic data composed by spatial data and attributedata. The spatial data as GIS basic component and an important source of information, inour country ’s economic construction and sustainable development has played a more andmore important role. With the development of GIS technology, around the storage andmanagement, space data, there are many kinds of storag and management mode: pure modeof file, file with relational database model and object oriented database model. The formertwo way is the spatial data and attribute data in separate storage, wasting the resources andcausing the disorder of management. The consistency of the data are difficult to maintain, and it is difficult to share the data on the Internet. Object oriented datababase managementsystem technology is not matuture enough, and expensive.so it is difficult to havepractical applications in the field of GIS.With the continuous development of computer technology, relational database sprovides the methed of storing spatial data. Using the relational database to store patial dataand attribute data integration m has become a true, namely the object relation database.Oracle database in the8i version, joined the Spatial space components, to provide objectstorage in the form of the vector data model, t.Oracle9i strengthened the model. The latestversion of the10g add raster data storage model, s,making the Oacle datababase function perfect. This paper is based on the spatial data model in the Oracle10g, researching kinds ofGIS data’s torage and management, analysyiing the vectordata、rasterdata、metadata、layer、the physical storage structure and some related concepts, discussesing the objectrelation model of vector and raster data storage technolology. finally demonstrateding withexamples by Oracle10g Spatial, that components can be used to store spatial data in GISeffectively.Through the metadata table, vector and raster data t formed as object is stored inOracle database,,realizing the GIS data’s storage and management in the same database.
