The Research Of Volunteered Geographic Information Application Based On REST Web Service

With the rapid development of Google Earth， Web2.0and network technology， a newgeographic information age has arrived， accompanying with the new approach of the creation，maintenance，application of geographic information，which is all done by the public and calledvolunteered geographic information. It can be easily achieved to join smart phones and sensornetworks with REST Web Service, the uploading and annotation of Web2.0and the populationof the mobile devices，making the general public as information providers.The access to public resources is the basis for the development of geographic informationindustry. The application program whose platform is the Internet is the main form of accessing todata source. The acquisition and processing of volunteered geographic information is now moremature, such as ArcGIS Mobile. However, because of its own characteristics, which has strictrules on the platform,layers supported, the format of data and logo, the professional way couldnot get a wide range of population. It is very important to use open-source approach,cross-platform on the access to volunteered geographic information.It is mainly discussing the collection of volunteered geographic information based onopen-source in this paper. It introduces the mobile open source development framework, whichis Rhodes. And it proposed to collect the data with the mobile devices, achieving the loading，publishing and data processing with software of Openlayers, GeoServer, ArcGIS Server basedon REST Web Service.The study in this paper is mainly located in the data post-processing， mainly including thefollowing two research areas:1The loading of the map. The experiment uses the San Francisco street maps asexperimental data, designs and publishes the map by the GeoServer and ArcGIS Server， whichcan be loaded and mashuped with Google map and Yahoo map by Openlayers with language ofJavascript, reducing the complexity of programming to some extent.2Designing GeoProcessing service. The Model Builder can be used to build practical toolswhich called hot spot analysis tool for data processing. The customized tools then arepublished as GP services， GP services which are available in the desktop applications and webpages for the data processing. According to the study, REST Web Service can reduce the complexity of development andimprove the scalability of the system. Loading services by OpenLayers with the open sourcemobile development framework can achieve cross-platform application calls, while reducing thespontaneous of Volunteered Geographic Information. Data processing by the GeoProcessingservice can enable lightweight and complex data analysis, meeting diverse processingrequirements in GIS applicationgs.
