| In order to enhance China’s basic research level, to change the state of scientific research funding,the State Council of China approved the establishment of the National Natural Science FundationCommittee in February14,1986. In recent years many disciplines have made statistics and trendanalysis between these disciplines and National Natural Science Foundation of China, but so far noinsects disciplines comprehensive statistical analysis. For accurate hold direction and development trendof entomology and changes of National Natural Science Foundation, the relationship betweenentomology and National Science Foundation was analysed in this paper. We use of data of NationalNatural Science Fund on Entomology during2001-2011. Trend within each branch of entomology wasanalyzed using diversity index by regression and correlation analysis method. Spatial and temporaldynamics of the National Natural Science Foundation on entomology was also analysed. Therelationship between SCI papers and core journals of China on Entomology and chenges of NationalNatural Science Foundation was calculated.The main conclusions are as follows:1. The fund mode of National Natural Science Foundation on entomology was become morediversity. The present fund mode is a single mode which mainly focuses on national natural fund ofsurface project. The future tendency maybe support national natural science foundation of area projectand youth fund to enhance the diversity greatly. This fund mode encourages scientific research workersto work and research in weak area of entomology. Insect Biochemistry and molecular biology inentomologyhad the fastest developing speed, which have more fund number than the other branch. Thetraditional disciplines of insect taxonomy and ecology of insects developed slowly, which has fewerfund number. National Natural Science Foundation had supported the research of mode insect duringthe past decades, which made a great effects to improve the research level of entomology. This fundmode maybe not be changed much in furture.2. The National Natural Science Foundation on entomology in the spatial and temporal scale haschanged a lot from2001-2011. The whole money and fund number continuously increased to4.82timesand13.89times from2001to2011. The development dentency may also be sustained and have a stablegrowth period. The regional development is not balanced. Beijing was the center of entomologyresearch. Yangtze river region and pearl river region region were secondly only to beijing. Northwestregion, northeast region, and southwest regions of China lags behind in development of entomology,which have the weak research ability. These condition can not be significantly improved in a long time.3. The National Natural Science Foundation made a the effective effect to improve research leveland development of insect. The core journals of quantity and quality in China has been significantlyimproved, SCI number of papers have made a huge improvement. The relationsip between SCI paperand National Natural Science Foundation was correlated greatly. Research level of entomology also willrise steadily, especially on the research of mode species. Even this mode species research will enter theworld top-ranking level.To sum up, the National Natural Science Foundation of China had lead the development of entomology and played a huge role. But there are also regional unbalanced development andunreasonable funding mode. According to statistics analysis in the past decades, this situation has beenimproved a lot. The northwest, northeast and other development weak area has not been significantlyimproved, and the future condition may not produce obvious changes. To turn round this kind ofsituation, the National Natural Science Foundation would take greater incentive to attract youngresearchers to the northwest and northeast may be an effective way to solve this problem. |
