Natural disasters are abnormal phenomena happened in nature to endanger human and society. In scientific terms, the research on the occurrence, development and harm of natural disasters to minimize such losses, has been a common theme of the international community. Taking account of domestic and foreign statistical material, meteorological disasters accounted for more than70%of natural disasters, and our country is one of the countries affected by the worst meteorological disasters in the world, while, secondary disasters and derivative disasters caused by meteorological disasters constitute a grave threat to national economic construction, the sustainable development of society and people’s lives and property. Therefore, to minimize the impacts of meteorological disasters are of great significance and develop a scientific, distinct, interactive simulation system of meteorological disaster scenes is of prime importance for disaster prevention, reduction and rescue.The natural interactivity between human and virtual environment created by computer has been achieved by virtual reality technology which has been widely used in disaster simulation, military simulation, urban planning, intelligent transportation and other fields. The development of meteorological disaster scenarios simulation system based on virtual reality provides an efficient way to disaster prevention publicity, emergency decision, post-disaster assessment and reconstruction. In this paper, firstly, three dimensional models of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology have been created based on3ds Max8to simulate disaster area; secondly, manage information system has been developed based on ODBC to manage customer information, meteorological data, meteorological classification standards and disaster forewarning information; thirdly, typical fractal algorithm simulation system has been developed based on Visual Studio2005to improve the realism of meteorological disaster scenes; finally, combined with entropy meteorology, particle system and fractal algorithm based on OSG have been used to simulate typical meteorological disaster scenarios and realize real-time interactive functions such as virtual scene editing, system information management, key parameter setting and roaming mode conversion with illumination, collision, levels of detail and sound effects. The results show that this system provides strong senses of immersion and natural interactive functions with certain research significance and application value.
