With the rapid development of China’s social and economic, residents’disposable income and leisure time are increasing, travel is becoming more and more important in people’s leisure activities. The summer leisure tourism of Chongqing is developing rapidly and tourists are growing fast, but this is restricted by the following factors:lack of land, limited reception capacity and environment issues. This paper selects Chongqing as the research object, and collects terrain, hydrology, climate, land cover and socio-economic basic data. Through access to relevant information as a basis for building tourist site siting evaluation index system. Then based on GIS technology, this paper calculated raster data of terrain, hydrology, climate, land cover and socio-economic conditions. Making single factor suitability assessment for tourist sites, and then using AMP for weighting factor determined, then taking weighted overlay analysis and classifies the comprehensive suitability of tourist sites based on natural breaks method. Then divide these most suitable areas into seven suitable regions and use larger scale terrain and current land using data to find a more appropriate locating plan. The results show that:(1)Unsuitable areas with the area of31930.59km2, accounts for38.12%of the total area, and is mainly distributed in the valleys, central hilly areas, higher ground of parallel ridge valleys, low mountains of the northeast and karst plain of the southeast, where the terrain conditions is good, but are greatly subjected to hydrology, climate, land cover and socio-economic conditions.(2)Low suitable areas with the area of32358.14km2, accounts for38.63%of the total area, and is mainly distributed in the hilly areas, the flat regions between parallel ridge valleys, and the northeast, the southeast and central parts of the transition zone, where the terrain conditions is good, the socio-economic conditions is great, the land cover index is high, but are largely subjected to hydrology, climate conditions.(3)Moderately suitable areas with the area of15821.48km2, accounts for18.89%of the total area, and is mainly distributed in the northeast, the southeast and the south parts of the medium altitude mountains, where the terrain conditions is poor, the socio-economic conditions is poor, the land cover index is low, but the hydrology conditions is relatively good, the climate comfort period is relatively long.(4)Highly suitable areas with the area of3649.43km2, accounts for4.36%of the total area, and is mainly located in the high altitude of Daba Mountain, Wushan Mountain, Wuling Mountain and Dalou Mountain which situated in the northeast, southeast and south of study area, where the terrain conditions is poor, the land cover index is low, the socio-economic conditions is poor, but the hydrology and climate conditions is the best to the entire area.(5)Suitable areas of the location plan with the area of22.07km2, accounts for12.14%of the Jinfo region, which is mainly distributed in the east and the south parts of study area, and has a scattered distribution in the north and the west parts. These areas satisfying the limited condition of terrain data and current land use data.
