On-machine measurement system for gear inspection will greatly save thenon-cutting time in process of workpiece inspection, such as workpiece loading andunloading time, workpice handling time. In addition, the workpiece’s machining errorwill be reflected without delay. Integrating on-machine measurement system for gearinspection into gear grinding machine with form wheel’s CNC system, the gearmanufacturing process will become a gear closed-loop manufacturing system, so as toimprove the quality and efficiency of gear processing. Therefore, this paper focus on thepath planning of an on-machine measurement of gear grinding machine with formwheel, aimed for accurate and quick inspection of pitch error, tooth profile error andtooth helix error. This reseach may has important theoretical meaning as well asapplication value.Firstly, the gear’s accuracy theory development process is introduced in this paper.The definition and the error curve expression method of pitch error, tooth profile errorand tooth helix error from national standard are analyzed. Thought on on-machinemeasurement of pitch error, tooth profile error and tooth helix error on gear grindingmachine with form wheel is discussed.Secondly, based on the definition of pitch error, tooth profile error and tooth helixerror from national standard, taking account of mechanical structure, the mathematicalmodel of on-machine measurement of gear grinding machine with form wheel is built.Positioning coordinate of centre of sphere located at the tip of probe and computationalformula of deviation are derived for pitch inspection, tooth profile inspection, toothhelix inspection.Then, taking account of the characteristic of the method of on-machinemeasurement of gear grinding machine with form wheel, the model of touch triggerprobe is selected. Based on the support of software and hardware of SiemensSINUMERIK840D CNC system to on-machine measurement of gear grinding machinewith form wheel, measurement path of pitch inspection, tooth profile inspection, toothhelix inspection is planned.Finally, based on a thought of gear closed-loop manufacturing system, theworkflow of a gear closed-loop manufacturing system composed of gear grindingmachine with form wheel is planned. Then, according to the workflow, the structure of hardware and software of on-machine measurement system is designed.
