Taking Dalan town, Ningbo as a case study, the feasibility and implementation of the energybased composting of rural domestic refuse was researched, and its ecological footprint was.evaluated in the present paper. At the same time, the comprehensive practices of rural domesticrefuse management was suggested base on the questionnaire survey method. The results show that:(1) The rural domestic refuse (in Ningbo City) is mainly composed of organic waste, recyclable waste, inorganic waste and toxic waste, and the organic ingredients suitable forcomposting is about60%. The solar energy equipment can meet the rural waste treatmentrequirement of low cost and easy operation, and can also meet the practical needs of rural wastetreatment. The compost experimental results of Dingjiafan Village, Dalan Town, shows that theregular physicochemical indexes have reached the standard of compost. Therefore, the solar energybased compost in suburban countryside is feasible and is worthy to be popularized.(2) Compared to the so-called3stage processing mode, the ecological footprint of the modeof solar compost mixed with3stage processing is reduced from118.724hm~2to88.1567hm~2with25.7%reduced, and the treatment cost is reduced with219510yuan. The solar energy basedtreatment method reduces the ecological footprint30.5673hm~2for ecological environment benefits; For the social and economic benefits, solar energy based treatmet method reduces the operationcost,, and can improve the environmental health of Dalan Town, with a solution of the problem oftourist visitors reduction caused by the waste, thereby promoting the development of the tourismindustry.(3) Based on the experience of Dalan, the comprehensive practices of rural domestic refusemanagement is preliminary summaried as: first, to do the propaganda work well to villagers for theunified delivery; second, to set dustbin/barrel in suitable place and guarantee cleaning on time forunified collection; then, to strengthen the management of solar equipment site selection andconstruction for unified treatment; Finally, to set up the special direct institution for unifiedmanagement of cleaning staff.
