Electron beam (EB) curing technology is one developing prospect technology withadvantages such as environmental-friend, efficiency, economy and energy saving, whichattract the great attention of research department and decision-making institution. In thisarticle, EB curable resin (novolac epoxy acrylate resin and EB/moisture dual curablenovolac epoxy acrylate resin) were synthesized. The EB curing process, the propertiesand the moisture curing process of coating were studied. The detailed research contentsand results are summarized as follows:EB curable resin (novolac epoxy acrylate resin and EB/moisture dual curablenovolac epoxy acrylate resin) were synthesized from bisphenol F type novolac epoxyresin (F-51), acrylic acid (AA), γ-aminoropyl triethoxysilane (KH-550) and isophoronediisocyanate (IPDI). The resulted product was characterized by Fourior-transforminfrared spectra (FT-IR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra (1HNMR). Theresults indicated that the required products were successfully prepared.Low energy electron beams was used for curing the synthesized resin. The effectsof irradiation dose on physical properties, gel content, FT-IR, thermogravimetricanalysis (TGA) and double bonds conversion of the cured coating were studied. Theresults indicate that EB curing was a competition curing process crosslinking anddegradation, and90kGy was the suitable EB irradiation dose. The physical properties ofthe cured coatings with and without cationic initiator432addition were studied. Theresults indicated that the pencil hardness of the cured coatings increased with increasingdouble bonds content, while the flexibility decreased. And the silicone groups additioncould improve the adhesion and flexibility. EB could cure epoxy group with cationicinitiator432addition. The comparison curing method of EB-cure and UV-cure wereinvestigated with physical properties, TG, FT-IR and conversion of double bonds. Moreover, polyurethane acrylate (PUA) resin was added into the synthesized novolacepoxy acrylate resin as toughener. And the tensile mechanical properties ofPUA/F51-AA materials were test. PUA could improve the flexibility of the curedcoatings.Irradiation dose, formula and temperature influence on moisture curing process were studied by pendulum hardness method. The results indicated that the samples hadobvious moisture curing process, and the coating properties were greatly improved bymoisture curing. The moisture curing time increased with increasing amount ofirradiation dose and the content of bonds. Increasing temperature could shorten the curetime remarkably. The changes of the coatings during moisture curing were analyzed byTG and FT-IR. The results showed that Si-O-Si cross-linking network was formed byhydrolysis of Si-OC2H5group happened in moisture curing process.
