Schiff base is a very important nitrogen compound and one of the multi-functional ligand because of the nitrogen atoms easily coordinated with the metal. The Schiff base complexes with the conjugated structure and the metal atoms own potential value in absorbing stealth materials as electric and magnetic properties. Recent years, a small number of Schiff bases absorbing stealth materials have been reported.Eighteen conjugated Schiff base and fifteen Fe complexes were synthesized and were characterized by mass spectrometry, infrared, X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis to further enrich and broaden the conjugated Schiff base and its metal complexes. In addition, conductivity and electromagnetic parameters of part of the Schiff base complexes were measured. The paper is divided into four parts.Firstly, the synthesis mechanism and method of the Schiff base were introduced, the research progress of the Schiff base complexes in absorbing stealth as well as several other applications were reviewSecondly, six Schiff bases were synthesized by interaction of benzaldehyde and cinnamaldehyde with p-phenylenediamine, benzidine and3,3’-dimethyl-(1,1’-biphenyl)-4,4’-diamine, respectively. The complexes were synthesized by interaction of above Schiff base and anhydrous ferric chloride respectively. The structures of the ligands and complexes were characterized by melting point, mass spectrometry, infrared spectrum and elemental analysis.Thirdly, six Schiff bases were synthesized by interaction of furan-2-carbaldehyde and3-(furan-2-yl)acrylaldehyde with p-phenylenediamine, benzidine and3,3’-dimethyl-(1,1’-biphenyl)-4,4’-diamine, respectively, two of which are organic single crystals and have not been reported. The complexes were synthesized by interaction of above Schiff base and anhydrous ferric chloride respectively. The structures of the ligands and complexes were characterized by melting point, mass spectrometry, infrared spectrum, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction.Fourthly, three Schiff bases were synthesized by interaction of nicotinaldehyde with p-phenylenediamine, benzidine and3,3’-dimethyl-(1,1’-biphenyl)-4,4’-diamine, respectively, one of which is organic single crystals. The complexes were synthesized by interaction of above Schiff base and anhydrous ferric chloride respectively. Another Schiff bases were synthesized by interaction of3-(pyridin-3-yl)acrylaldehyde with p-phenylenediamine, benzidine and3,3’-dimethyl-(1,1’-biphenyl)-4,4’-diamine, respectively. The structures of the ligands and complexes were characterized by melting point, mass spectrometry, infrared spectrum, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Finally, a part of the Schiff base complexes above were tested for electrical conductivity and the relationship between the complexes and the conjugate and spatial structure of Schiff base were analyse. A part of the Schiff base complexes above were tested for electromagnetic parameters and the absorbing capacity of Schiff base complexes with conjugate and heteroatom in different frequency were analyse.
